For so many years, salt has been vilified, but for no good reason.
A 2011 Study from the Journal of the American Medical Association found that:
“Low-salt diets increase the risk of death from heart attacks and strokes and do not prevent high blood pressure…”
“that the less salt people ate, the more likely they were to die of heart disease.”
“Those eating the most salt had a slight increase in systolic blood pressure, they were no more likely to develop hypertension.”
“Lower salt consumption…has consequences beyond blood pressure. It increases insulin resistance ,which increases risk of heart disease.”
While we are on the topic of salt, here is your quick reminder to stay hydrated. I recommend drinking ½ bodyweight in ounces of water per day PLUS getting in your electrolytes. If you don’t already use an electrolyte packet, I do recommend LMNT. For many years, I would drink more than a half gallon of water per day, but I was still cramping when I lifted, losing energy when I was out mountain biking and my overall performance was just bad. When our Business Manager, Leigh Anne introduced me to the LMNT, there was no turning back. As long as I have water with my LMNT every single day, I no longer cramp. I feel like I could spend hours on my mountain bike. My overall performance has improved. But, please, stay hydrated. Your heart depends on it! It needs the sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium to pump.
Dehydration can affect your body tremendously. You don’t want your heart to have to work harder and put unnecessary strain on it.
Got back pain? Join paint? Could be from chronic dehydration.
It doesn’t have to be complicated, but you have to do the simple things over and over again.
Until next time,
Stay Hydrated! (Water + electrolytes)
