Are you someone who will play a pick-up tennis match occasionally? Do you step in for a weekend and play in your alum soccer or lacrosse game? Are you someone that will jump into an obstacle course race?
If you answered yes to any of the above, please stop for one second.
Have you trained your body for this event?
As we age, most of us become more sedentary. We don’t move like we did as kids. Backward and laterally. Stopping and going. Jumping and twisting. Falling and bouncing back up. Now that we have slowed from our childhood days, our chance of getting hurt in an athletic event (without proper training) goes up dramatically!
So, if you haven’t moved laterally, progressively increased your sprint speed, or done any movement to mimic or practice the sport you will play, give yourself at least 12 weeks to start training these specific movement patterns.
