The Importance of Strength & Mobility
We all know how important strength is and why we need to do it:
- Increased muscle mass is essential for maintaining physical function
- Improved Bone Density
- Increased resting metabolic rate
- Reduced Risk of Chronic Diseases
- Improved Balanced and Coordination
- Makes Activities of Daily Living Easier to Perform
But, what about mobility? The ability for the joint to move freely through its range of motion is essential for:
- Performing basic daily living tasks of getting dressed and tying your shoes.
- Injury prevention
- Less Pain: How many people do you know that have some sort of shoulder, knee and back pain?
- Improve athletic performance
- Live independently
- Help reduce risk of falling

I know some of the strongest people who can’t bend over and put their shoes on or have the ability to wash their hair.
Strength and Mobility are both so important to not just get through all of our activities of daily living, but to thrive.
I have always said, the harder you train, the harder you need to recover. This is why at ANCHOR we have our Active Recovery Classes that include not just yoga and meditation, but deep stretch and mobility classes. I don’t have these classes just for $h*ts and giggles. I truly know the importance of staying strong, but also mobile enough to stay out of chronic pain.
How many golfers and tennis players do you know that have back, elbow and knee pain?
For those of you who do play golf and tennis… What does your warm-up and cooldown look like? Do you run up to the range, stretch out those shoulders with clubs and then hit a few balls before running up to the 1st tee?
Then, what happens after a fun day in the sun? I’m sure you go through this perfect cool down routine? 😉
Or more working those bicep muscles with some adult beverages while you chat/talk smack with your friends, hand out the money to the winner, sit back and relax? (Does that sound more like it 🙂 Then, a couple hours you go to stand up, feeling a bit stiff and start talking about your joint pain and the different ortho docs you have seen?
Here’s the thing… it doesn’t have to be that way.
If you can start by spending just 10 minutes every day on your mobility to complement the fitness journey you are on, you will feel so much better and reduce the risk of injury.
