My Gym Manager called me out…
Last Thursday, my GM, Leigh Anne (or LA AKA my work wife) asked if I wanted to join her for a 4/4:30AM workout on Friday. Now, back in the day I was doing this consistently on Friday’s. Of course I told her yes. Well, guess who didn’t show up on Friday.
On Friday at 9:03AM, she sent me this text: “Missed ya this AM.”

Well, that’s all I needed. She called my @$$ out and it has absolutely lit a fire under my @$$. Since last Saturday, I have been up at 4AM every day to start my day with a walk. No excuses. It has been a game changer. Over the past month since getting back from my climbing Mount Whitney, I’ve been going through the motions a bit. No walking, just enough lifting to get by. Getting to bed too late. Dehydrated. No routine. No discipline. I wasn’t getting enough done. Since last Saturday, my productivity has skyrocketed. I’m focused, disciplined and in a routine.
With that being said, you are who you surround yourself with. Your 5 closest people. So, I ask you this.
- Are your closest 5 people pushing you and challenging you to be better?
- Do they want the best for you?
- Do you share similar core values?
- Is their idea of Friday night “fun” heading to the bar or club, chugging drinks, staying up late and feeling like dog $h*t the next day?
- Are they bringing you down and away from your goals?
I will often meet with individuals who are ready to start their health and fitness journey, but they don’t have the support from their partner, let alone their friends. I often hear individuals ready to start their journey or reduce or cut their alcohol get called “boring, no fun, etc..” I’ve been there. When I decided to elevate my life, not drink, focus on hiking, mountain biking, rucking… I lost friends along the way. But, I was focusing on my health for myself and my family. I didn’t care. It can get lonely, but it also creates a new circle, opportunity and relationships. I have my GM who calls me out all the time. $h*t, we spend more time together each week then I do with my kids.
If you are ready to start your health and fitness journey, do it. If you don’t feel like you have the support from family and friends, search for new ones. I’m not saying get rid of who you are with, but you will need to find a crew to help support you along the way.
If you are looking for support for your journey, respond to this email. I got you!
In Strength,
Charlene
